Shale Shaker is a conventional equipment used in drilling fluid circulation system to separate solid phase particles. It is also the most important and earliest equipment for solid phase separation, and plays a very important role in solid control systems. It is the first line of defense after drilling fluid returns to the surface from the wellbore, and generally has a greater impact on drilling costs. However, if a damaged screen is used, the drilling fluid does not pass through the screen, and the mesh size of the screen is improperly selected or partially damaged, which will cause the subsequent solids control equipment to fail to operate normally.

The Shale Shaker is suitable for any type of drilling fluid, and the selection of the screen is determined by factors such as the circulation speed, the structure of the vibrating screen, the properties of the wellbore, and the performance of the drilling fluid.
Depending on the structure of the Shale Shaker, there are many types of screen, such as Hook Strip Flat Screen, Hook Strip Soft Screen, Composite Frame Screen, Metal Frame Screen, Metal Frame Pyramid Screen, Hook Strip Soft Screen and so on.
The screen is the most vulnerable part of the Shale Shaker. Improving the service life of the screen can greatly reduce the drilling cost. Therefore, all drilling workers are studying how to improve the service life of the screen. In addition to the material factor of the screen itself, how to install and fix the screen correctly on the shaker deck is also very important. For the Shale Shaker using Metal Frame Screen and Composite Frame Screen, wedge blocks are generally used for fixing.

How to install the Shaker Screen
- The cassette mounting sequence below is given from the discharge end of the sieve frame. On the other hand, the installation of three cassettes begins in turn.
- Gradually lower the back of the cassette until it contacts the base of the sieve frame.
- Push the two cassette locking wedges into the wedge block guides as far as they will go.
- Using a rubber mallet, strike the two wedge blocks lightly at the point of impact while driving the wedge until the cassette is in firm contact with the base of the screen frame.
- Run the vibrating sieve for 10 minutes without giving it any working material. Stop vibrating screen. Repeat the operation indicated in point 8.4. This is important to eliminate the gap between the cassettes and the base of the sieve frame.
It is very important to install the wedge-shaped block to fix the screen mesh. If the wedge -shaped block cannot firmly fix the screen mesh, it will cause the screen mesh to fall off during the working process of the vibrating screen, resulting in a safety accident.
The wedge block is generally made of polyurethane or rubber. Polyurethane material has the advantages of good tensile strength, tear strength, impact resistance, abrasion resistance, weather resistance, hydrolysis resistance, oil resistance and so on.
