Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones for Slurry Separation
The Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones plays an important role in Slurry Separation. According to the size of the cyclone can be divided into Desander Hydrocyclone and Desilter Hydrocyclone. By convention, a hydrocyclone with a diameter greater than or equal to 6 inches is a Desander Hydrocyclone, and a hydrocyclone with a diameter less than 6 inches is a Desilter Cyclone.
Type of Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones
- High Molecular Material Cyclones
- Polyurethane(PU) Cyclones
- Polyurethane(PU) Cyclones with Ceramic Lining
- Iron Cyclones with Polyurethane(PU) Lining
- Iron Cyclones with Ceramic Lining
- Others

Working Process Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones for Slurry Separation
Generally, the liquid phase carrying the useless solid phase will first enter the vibrating screen for primary separation. Usually, the vibrating screen can separate particles larger than 65 microns.
Then, with the help of the Centrifuge pump, the liquid phase carrying smaller particles enters the Desander Cyclone, in general 10 inch Desander cyclones make a separation between 40 and 100 microns. With the help of the second centrifugal pump, the liquid phase carrying smaller particles enters Desilter Cyclones, in general 4 inch Desilter Cyclones make a separation between 12 and 74 microns.
Applicantion of Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones for Slurry Separation
- In Mud Recycling System for Oil and Gas Drilling, Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones as the second and third stage separation in the Mud Recycling System.
- In Mud Recycler for Trenchless Project: HDD, TBM, Micro-tunneling and etc, Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones can be install on the Mud Recycler, and separate the solids from the slurry, recovery the costly slurry.
- In Mining Drilling Project, Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones can be in HI-G Dewatering Machine, use for Sand washing production line. The dehydration type fine sand recovery machine is used in combination with the sand washing machine to form a sand washing system of “Sand Washing-Dehydration-Recovery”.

How to adjust the working state of Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones for Slurry Separation
Most Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones are of balanced design, a well-regulated, balanced cyclone has an “umbrella” discharge at the underflow outlet and a central column of air. Many balanced Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones are adjustable so that when water is fed to the cyclone under pressure, there is no discharge at the bottom. On the contrary, when coarse particles are added to the input drilling fluid, the wet particles will be discharged from the bottom, and even with good regulation, there should still be a large opening at the bottom of the Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones. This will ensure that the cyclone is hydraulically balanced and that the cyclone-removable particles are only discharged from the underflow port at the bottom when the cyclone-removable particles are being fed into the drilling fluid.
A balanced Desander Cyclones and Desilter Cyclones operates with an “umbrella” discharge, during which the coarse particles are discharged in a downward spiral and through the bottom outlet in a hollow form. The bottom is actually an overflow or sluice, not a shut-off or valve.
The high-speed reflux spinning rotates up near the center of the centrifugal cone and enters the vortex duct, creating a low-pressure cylindrical space, which sucks air inward through the center of the bottom flow port.
