Terminology of Describing Shale Shaker Screen

Open area: Non blanked area of the Screen Cloth.
Conductance: Fluid that can pass through one sq/ft of screen cloth.
Usable screening area: The open area in sq/ft per screen.
Transmittance: Total fluid handling for one screen.
Cut point:Cut points represent separation potentials of various particle sizes.

Mesh/Screen Cloth Type of Shale Shaker Screen

MG Cloth

MG is featuring a single-layer cloth with heavy wire diameter and square openings. Because of the durable, heavy-wire diameter, the MG is used primarily as a scalping screen with excellent screen life.

HC Cloth

Two fine screening layers over a support cloth provide superior performance in blinding applications enable the HC mesh to yield excellent capacity. Screen life is equal to the XL mesh.

XL Cloth

The XL screen has been specifically designed for use in drilling sandstone formations, which typically create blinding problems with standard screen mesh types.

XR Cloth

Rectangular openings and 50%-larger-diameter wire give XR mesh shaker screen mesh excellent capacity and the longest screen life in the industry.

DX Cloth

The DX cloth is designed to maximize capacity, maintain cut point integrity, and minimize near size particle blinding.

DF Cloth

DF Cloth has a slightly larger wire diameter than the DX cloth, but thinner than market grade and tensile bolting cloth.

HP Cloth

HP high performance cloth series was developed to increase fluid capacity by utilizing slotted openings.

  • ASTM is short for The American Society for Testing and Materials, ASTM E11:01 mesh equals to ISO 33101:2000 mesh. This method determines the cut point of single layer ASTM screen mesh size. For shaker screen mesh, normally means the surface screen mesh size. Whilst the shaker screen is usually a composition of 2 or 3 layers, the cut point of the first layer mesh is not equal to the final shaker screen cut point.
  • API is short for American Petroleum Institute, “API Number” is determined by API RP13C or ISO13501, the cut point is related to the combined 3-layer wire mesh test result. So before order, we will need API number, or the cut point, to define a more proper shaker screen configuration.
